Technical Projects and Planning Manager - Home/General Merchandise
Shire Park, Welwyn Garden City, Hertfordshire
We are on the lookout for a Technical Projects and Planning Manager to join our Quality team here at Tesco.
Our existing team of technical managers and technologists are predominantly focused on the ongoing implementation of the “Tesco product rules” (processes and procedures to ensure that safe, legal, fit for purpose products come from approved Tesco manufacturers), in parallel to supporting the development and delivery of the category product & planet plans.
Increasingly the department faces into complex change programs, as well as an increasing need to optimise and improve technical work-flows and processes. The Technical Projects and Planning manager will sit alongside the existing technical team and will be predominantly focused on leading the programs/projects and process improvements within the home technical department.
The position will lead high priority, cross functional, complex pieces of change work, and contribute directly to the success of the Home Group Quality, Technical and Sustainability (QTS) plan.
You will be responsible for:
Define and scope the projects / programmes you lead, establishing clear direction and alignment by ensuring that a clear vision, objectives and plan are in place.
Mobilise teams and establish, implement and embed ways of working.
Establish and facilitate the appropriate levels of governance to provide oversight and direction for the projects/programmes.
Engage and align stakeholders across all levels to deliver the plan.
Manage interdependencies and impacts across projects / programmes.
Drive progress in a consistent, transparent way, and identify and manage issues and risks, and opportunities.
Support subject matter expertise and development within the team.
Responding to immediate priorities and challenges.
Drive efficiency and simplification across Home Technical delivery, using insight from live programmes and emerging priorities to streamline ways of working, and reduce unnecessary complexity.
You will need:
Mobilise teams and lead delivery across multiple, shifting programmes, responding confidently to unfamiliar challenges.
Quickly grasp complex concepts and develop, articulate, and deliver clear, effective solutions.
Bring structure and clarity in ambiguous environments, flexing leadership style to influence peers and senior stakeholders to deliver critical priorities.
Embrace uncertainty with energy and positivity, enabling teams to get the right things done, in the right way.
Demonstrate strong alignment to the Tesco Purpose and Values, consistently role‑modelling Win Together behaviours.
Proven experience delivering projects and managing cross‑functional programmes, including leading teams and building strong stakeholder relationships.
Confident influencing and engaging business leaders, facilitating governance forums and NWTs.
Take accountability, make sound decisions, and proactively drive progress.
Clear on role expectations and how the opportunity supports future career and development goals.
A collaborative team player who contributes to a motivated, enthusiastic, high‑performing team culture.
