As a Senior Data and Analytics Manager within the Group Risk and Audit (GRA) function, the successful candidate will lead the advancement of AI, data, and analytics capabilities across the team, driving innovation and embedding data-driven practices into audit and risk assurance processes.
This UK-based role involves strategic collaboration with Tesco Technology and the TBS data team, delivering impactful audit analytics, enhancing technical capabilities within GRA, and spearheading the adoption of emerging technologies such as AI and automation. The role also includes coaching team members, leading assurance engagements on data and AI, and developing scalable solutions for continuous risk monitoring. A key focus will be on aligning data initiatives with business objectives, fostering a culture of innovation, and ensuring the effective integration of advanced analytics tools and platforms.

You will be responsible for:
Audit Delivery – Data Analytics
Review the annual audit plan to identify opportunities where data analytics can add significant impact and determine the level of analytics involvement for each engagement.
Collaborate with the Head of Audit to plan and allocate analytics resources effectively, ensuring alignment with audit priorities and timelines.
Oversee data readiness for audits by mapping and validating data sources during the planning phase, ensuring data integrity and accessibility.
Provide expert input into scoping discussions to embed analytics objectives into audit terms of reference and ensure clear deliverables.
Technical Capability Development within GRA
Upskill auditors in data analytics by designing and delivering structured training programs, ensuring all team members can apply analytics techniques effectively where required.
Host monthly “Lunch and Learn” sessions to showcase real-world analytics use cases, share best practices, and drive adoption of advanced tools across the GRA team.
Build and maintain a central analytics knowledge hub, including curated tools, templates, and process guides, to standardise and accelerate analytics delivery.
Mentor and coach team members on integrating AI and automation into the audit lifecycle, fostering a culture of continuous learning and innovation.
Technological Advancement in Data Analytics and AI
Lead the acquisition and deployment of analytics tools and technologies, ensuring they meet business needs and comply with internal governance standards.
Lead the adoption of advanced analytics platforms by evaluating, selecting, and implementing tools that enhance audit testing depth and efficiency, ensuring alignment with GRA’s strategic objectives.
Integrate agentic AI within Microsoft Copilot Studio to automate repetitive tasks, streamline analytics workflows, and improve team productivity by delivering measurable time savings.
Continuously monitor emerging technologies (e.g., AI, machine learning, automation) and produce quarterly recommendations on their applicability to internal audit and risk assurance processes.
Design and execute AI pilot projects in collaboration with internal stakeholders, including Tesco Technology, and develop a roadmap for scaling successful solutions across the GRA function.
Strategic Partnership with Tesco Technology
Collaborate with Tesco Technology to design and implement a scalable data lake architecture, ensuring it supports current and future analytics requirements for audit and risk assurance.
Drive cross-functional initiatives by aligning technology roadmaps with audit objectives, facilitating workshops, and ensuring joint delivery of data-driven solutions that enhance assurance capabilities.
Lead assurance and advisory engagements on Data and AI.
Work directly with the Data & Analytics Director and the Data Science Director to strengthen the ongoing monitoring of AI capabilities in line with business objectives.
Data Driven Risk Monitoring
Partner with the Risk team to deliver data-driven insights by providing analytics that highlight principal risk movements, emerging trends, and control effectiveness.
Identify, document, and validate key data sources required for continuous monitoring dashboards, ensuring data accuracy, completeness, and timely availability.
Develop and apply advanced analytics techniques to strengthen the control environment, enabling proactive detection of anomalies and potential risk exposures.
Collaborate on the design and implementation of a GRC tool, including defining business rules, setting alert thresholds, and integrating dashboards into existing risk management systems.
You will need:
Experience working in an internal audit role
Strong data analytics experience, particular in Alteryx and Tableau as the preferred workflow and visualisation tools
Knowledge in developing and delivering assurance driven by data and analytics in an internal audit context
Ability to provide quality assurance over the data analytics planning, fieldwork and outputs that are completed from members of the GRA team
Involvement in working with teams locally and overseas to deliver targeted analytics
Retail experience preferred
Managed a team of junior data focused internal auditors
Recent or post qualified experience with assurance, internal audit or risk management, activities in relation to data analytics
Proficiency in tools such as SQL, Alteryx, KNIME, Tableau and Power BI
Accounting/Finance related degree with a professional qualification in either of the following: ACA, ACCA, CA, IIA
