Regional Technical Maintenance Manager

In this pivotal role, you’ll lead the technical and engineering support that keeps over 1,400 retail sites safe, legally compliant, and performing at their best. You’ll ensure our stores remain fully functional for customers, retail colleagues, and stakeholders, delivering exceptional service and consistently high operational standards. As an expert in your field, you’ll be the go‑to person for complex technical challenges, often acting as the first line of leadership across people, processes, and projects. This role is perfect for someone who thrives on balancing outstanding delivery with engaging and empowering teams, all while driving improvements that truly matter to the business and the customers we serve.

You will be responsible for:
Maintaining exceptional standards across the entire estate.
Leading and embedding change initiatives across the region to drive consistent performance improvements and year‑on‑year productivity gains.
Identifying issues and driving effective problem‑solving, ensuring root causes are addressed with sustainable solutions.
Collaborating with cross‑functional teams to co‑create solutions that are understood and owned at a local level.
Ensuring full compliance with all legal, regulatory, and company standards, continuously striving to exceed minimum requirements.
Providing guidance and leadership to field delivery teams to ensure operational standards are consistently met across the region.
Working closely with development teams and TAMs to uphold technical and installation standards.
Supporting non‑technical managers, enabling them to assist technicians in maintaining a safe, compliant, and fully operational estate.
Creating and delivering annual improvement plans, partnering with Design teams and external suppliers to align specifications and standards.
Supporting the delivery of planned and reactive maintenance activities, ensuring tasks are completed to a high quality.
Overseeing governance of SOPs, emergency procedures, and contingency planning.
Acting as the primary point of contact for all technical enquiries, including conducting site visits and managing relationships with senior stakeholders to ensure service excellence.
Championing Health & Safety practices and embedding a strong H&S culture across the region.
Conducting Root Cause Analysis where required to enhance operational reliability.
Driving Reliability Centred Maintenance (RCM) studies alongside Reliability Managers and owning asset-level improvement strategies.
Supporting national reliability plans, leading local reliability studies to maximise uptime and reduce costs.
Providing specialist technical and engineering expertise across all relevant categories.
Supporting and coordinating the response to major technical outages, ensuring effective resolution and communication.
You will need:
Extensive technical and maintenance engineering experience, with a proven track record in delivering high standards across complex estates.
Background in large‑scale, multi‑site or remote maintenance operations, with the ability to manage engineering performance at scale.
Strong senior stakeholder management skills, with the confidence to influence, challenge, and collaborate effectively.
Engineering qualifications at Level 3 or above, ideally in mechanical or electrical engineering (time‑served or equivalent).
Advanced technical expertise across HVAC, electrical, refrigeration, and mechanical systems.
A strong focus on engineering innovation, continuously seeking new ways to improve reliability and performance.
Knowledge of asset lifecycle management, including maintenance methodologies such as RCM and predictive maintenance strategies.
Hands‑on experience with Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and Preventive Maintenance (PM) techniques.
Professional registration (e.g., EngTech, IEng, CEng or equivalent) or working towards it.
Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence, engage, and collaborate across all levels.
Ability to build strong internal and external networks, fostering productive working relationships and partnerships.
Strong analytical capability, able to interpret data and use insights to drive timely, evidence‑based decisions.
High level of computer literacy, including experience with EAM systems and proficiency across Office 365 applications.
Proven experience in change management, supporting teams through transformation and continuous improvement initiatives.
Advanced problem‑solving skills, including expertise in Root Cause Analysis and structured troubleshooting techniques.
