Role Summary

We’re looking for an experienced Head of HR to join our team at Selfridges.

We’re seeking applications from individuals with demonstrable experience in:

Retail (currently working within a retail environment)
Employee Relations
Organisation Design and Transformation

This is a pivotal leadership role responsible for driving our people strategy and leading three key teams:

HR Business Partnering
Employee Relations
HR Shared Services

The successful candidate will partner closely with the wider HR Leadership Team to champion and deliver a holistic, end-to-end people proposition that supports our business goals and lives up to Selfridges’ Values.

A bit about the role

Leading the HR Business Partner, Employee Relations and HR Shared Services teams. The Head of HR will work in partnership with the wider HR Leadership team to champion and deliver a holistic end to end people proposition that supports the delivery of business goals in line with Selfridges’ Values.

Providing coaching, support and counsel that enables the Executive team and their senior leadership team to effectively deliver the strategy.

As a Head of HR, you will:

Provide leadership and support to the HR Business Partner, ER and HRSS teams, and foster a culture of continuous learning, listening, development, and improvement. Including our approach to DEI and ensuring it is a focus of our HR practice.
Partner with the Executive team on broad aspects of HR, focusing on the development of their organisation, the talent development of their direct reports (Exec – 1) and providing a trusted sounding board.
Collaborate with the HR leadership team and Exec to identify HR priorities and opportunities to help Selfridges stay ahead, and to develop and execute HR plans that support the organisation's objectives.
Take a lead role in transforming and strengthening the organisation through developing and implementing HR strategies, policies, and organisation design programs that support the business objectives, vision, and values of the organisation.
Driving continuous improvement across teams, using technology and self-service to improve the team member experience, including our approach to AI and realising more of its transformative potential.
Ensure that the company complies with current regulations, accepted professional standards, policies and procedures and legislation (including legislation on data protection, the Equality Act and health and safety).
Be responsible for organisation design and development across the organisation with the HRBP team leading on the implementation of any change projects.
Manage the Talent Review process for our Exec – 1 leadership team alongside the Talent & Learning Lead.
Oversee the delivery of the Employee Opinion Survey, which is managed by the HR Business Partner team and supporting with the companywide insights and action plans. This is a key metric on the Company Dashboard.
Managing budgets across the teams, including travel, training and additional team member costs
Be the HR representative on the Information Security Council and the AI Working Group.

How you’ll do it…you will be:

An experienced Head of HR with a proven skillset in coaching and influencing at a senior level
Experience of leading high performing senior teams in a retail environment
The ability to manage operational activity alongside playing a key role in defining and leading the people strategy with the HR leadership team
Experience of advising on complex employee relations cases up to Tribunal
An excellent communicator – both on an individual and group basis, with examples of having managed / delivered complex and difficult messages
Experienced in leading on projects – with evidence of project management skills
Able to operate and work within a fast paced and dynamic environment – with examples of having shown resilience and positivity
