Assistant Fabric Technologist - F and F

A unique and exciting opportunity has arisen for a Assistant Fabric Technologist to join our F&F Team here at Tesco.
The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting the development, testing, and approval of fabrics across our collections. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with a passion for textiles, a keen eye for detail, and a desire to grow within a fast-paced fashion environment.
You’ll work in our raw materials team on all aspects of fabric quality and compliance. Taking a leading role in projects on data to ensure transparency and preparation for incoming legislation, in addition to supporting designers, buyers, and suppliers to ensure fabric quality, performance, and compliance meet our brand standards.
This role would suit someone who has a degree in textiles, with minimum 2years industry experience; an understanding of fibre, yarns and fabric construction, fabric dyeing, printing and finishing processes. A passion for product, sustainability and circularity is essential.
You will be responsible for:
- Supporting my Technical Manager and category to ensure that products not only meet customer expectations but are legal, safe, responsibly, and sustainably sourced to meet our policies and commitments.
- Working with raw material teams and suppliers on upstream transparency and mill management through fabric key performance indicators (KPIs).
- Raw Material Management on KPI System, reporting analysis and actioning follow up on compliance gaps.
- Supporting fabric team to maintain Core fabrics and base approval process, including management of Physical library.
- Involvement in product benchmarking to analysis raw material quality against competitor and collate details for presenting to the wider team.
- Escalating and gathering data to support Incident management and quality performance issues. Creating Case Studies from Incidents.
- Conducting spot checks across suppliers and systems to ensure data compliance, and propose actions on gaps identified
- Working with internal and external teams to proactively support colour empowerment program, and ways of working. Coordinating and monitoring use of Tesco Core colour standards and ensuring consistency in product across suppliers.
- Assisting fabric team to ensure suppliers have completed relevant training, maintaining certification program requirements.
- Developing my expertise in all areas of textiles and mill process.
- Supporting my team and category in researching and presenting innovation in fibre, fabric, and finishes.
- Adhoc management of purchase orders, supplier updates and communication, fabric team events etc.
- Following our Business Code of Conduct and always acting with integrity and due diligence
You will need:
- Degree in textiles, with minimum 2years industry experience.
- Understanding of fibre, yarns and fabric construction, fabric dyeing, printing and finishing processes.
- Passion for product, sustainability and circularity.
Useful but not essential:
- Quality control / assurance experience
- Testing / laboratory experience
- Understanding of retail and customer needs
