British consumers are set to see a rise in the price of alcohols such as wine, prosecco and champagne. A ‘perfect storm’ of the falling value of the pound, higher inflation and the threat of rising duty costs could significantly dent the industry throughout the year. Early forecasts suggest that the price of Prosecco could rise by 59p and champagne up to £1. In an addition to this, wine could go up by as much as 10%, equating to 59p per bottle. Last year, the number of bottles bought by Brits was up 13% from 2015.
