It has been revealed that WH Smith, the book and stationery retailer, is to operate two airside stores in Alicante International Airport after obtaining a five-year contract.

The design for the stores at the airport will be in keeping with the look of the airside lounge. As well as increasing the footprint for the main airside store, WH Smith will improve and extend its ranges including sandwiches, soft drinks, reading materials in several languages and souvenirs.

International director Louis de Bourgoing, said: “Securing the contract for the stores in Alicante is a significant step in our European development strategy. It follows the win of the Dusseldorf International Airport contract and further openings in Northern Europe. The team has worked hard to deliver a high standard of design for these stores and provide a real step-change to the traditional ‘news and books’ operations.”
