Shopping centre Westfield Stratford City will be celebrating five years of trading this week. Since it opened, the East London venue has seen 220 million shoppers, whilst bringing in £5 billion in retail sales.
Situated opposite Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, the centre has attracted around 30 UK-first stores and concepts for local and international retailers including Lindex, Smiggle, Victoria’s Secret, American Eagle, Missguided and Stradivarius.
Future plans for Westfield Stratford include an expansion project with an extra retail space of 120,000 sq ft, which will create a further 10,000 jobs, up to 800,000 sq ft of offices and an additional 1225 residential homes.
Peter Miller, Westfield UK and Europe chief operating officer, said: “Westfield Stratford City continues to be the “number one shopping centre in the UK and Europe’s largest.
“Five years on, Westfield Stratford City has made history by breaking shopping centre records. The centre and Stratford as a destination are thriving. We look forward to continuing to attract the best and most innovative retailers and continuing to invest and grow with our new plans to bring offices, new homes and jobs to the area.”
