Waitrose has said that it will speed up payments to smaller suppliers after it was reported to be taking three times longer than Tesco to pay its bills.
The supermarket has appointed its director of commercial operations Matthew Frost to lead a review into supplier terms.

One supplier, who wished to remain anonymous, told The Times: “I used to be on 60 days with Tesco, but now I am on 14 days . . . I am on 45 days with Waitrose and it nearly kills me sometimes.”

Supplier terms have come into the spotlight in recent times following Tesco’s accounting scandal in 2014 where grey areas in supplier terms were thought to have contributed to the problems.
