Waitrose has announced that it will be the first supermarket in the UK to launch a cashless store, which will be opened in Sky’s flagship head office.  It will also be the first Waitrose branch to open on a workplace campus in nearly 20 years.

The Little Waitrose store which will be 1,400 sq ft, will serve over 3,500 employees of Sky when it opens this summer and customers will be able to buy items using card or mobile devices only.

After meeting with staff at Sky, products to be included in the store will include items such as fresh flowers, croissants, fresh bread, wraps, food to go sandwiches, sushi, celebration cakes and evening meals.

Jackie Wharton, Waitrose’s director of convenience, said: "Opening on the Sky campus is an exciting opportunity for us to respond to how customers wish to shop in this flagship workplace setting. Our convenience model is now more flexible than ever, especially as payment methods and ranges continue to evolve, so we'll look forward to exploring other opportunities like this in the future."

Adding his comment, director of property service group, Sky, Nick Green, said: "We're thrilled to welcome Waitrose to our campus in Osterley. Our goal is to make Sky a great place to work for all our colleagues to work and having such easy access to this new shop will be a huge benefit."

This new store will create 20 new jobs as part of the John Lewis partnership.
