Telecoms giant Vodafone has said that it may move its headquarters out of the UK in order to retain access to the EU's free movement of people, capital and goods following Britain’s decision to leave the EU.

In an emailed statement, the firm said that it would take “whatever decisions are appropriate” and said that it was still too early to draw “any firm conclusions regarding the long-term location for the headquarters".

Vodafone said in the email that key benefits to EU membership, including the free movement of people, had helped drive its growth.

In the email, which was sent to several media groups, the company said that the freedom of movement, capital and goods which are guaranteed by the EU were "integral to the operation of any pan-European business" and added "it remains unclear at this point how many of those positive attributes will remain in place once the process of the UK's exit from the European Union has been completed.”

The group is also to begin reporting its financial results in Euros, rather than pounds.
