According to the latest Shop Price Index done by the British Retail Consortium (BRC), consumers across the nation’s most popular outlets saw a 1.7% decline in prices. They stated that non-food items had seen a 2.3% decrease whereas food items decreased by 1.2%, which is in contrast to the slight increase felt by consumers in December. CEO of the BRC, Helen Dickinson suggested that an upwards trend in inflation is likely to come in 2017, due to the fall in the value of the sterling and economic uncertainty that Brexit has brought about.
