Food wholesaler Booker have announced that in the three months to March 24th, like-for-like tobacco sales fell by 7.5% whilst overall sales rose by 0.7%. The ban on displaying tobacco products at the point of sale was expanded from larger stores to smaller ones back in 2015, and the drop in sales figures experienced by the company, which owns convenience chains such as Budgens and Londis, reflects the impact of these changes. Like-for-like tobacco sales for the year fell by 4.6%, however the company are still pleased with the positive trend in overall sales.
