Some convenience store owners have expressed concerns in the wake of the deal between Tesco and Booker being announced. The supermarket giant currently owns approximately 30% of the UK grocery market, with the deal with Booker set to increase that by 2%. Under the Booker company name are the symbol retailers such as Premier, Londis and Budgens, which all will now fall under the Tesco Umbrella. The move however, could bring good news for farmers if the company decides to not exert large amounts of pressure on the supply chain. It could bring suppliers back into the remit of the Grocery Code Adjudicator, giving them better protection and security in their rights.
