A survey led by PwC, has revealed that the Brexit vote will have zero impact on Christmas spend from most of UK shoppers.

The Consumer Christmas Report has shown that despite this year’s share of economic instability, 67% expect no impact whatsoever on what they spend over the Christmas period, compared to 25% who do.

Madeleine Thomson, PwC retail lead, said: “We’ve seen UK consumers respond robustly to this year’s political uncertainty and sterling weakness, as evidenced by the post-referendum retail sales figures.

“Our survey results underline this resilience.”

Other figures show that the typical UK adult is expected to spend around £280 on presents this year, whilst 4% are expected to spend nothing, either because they can’t afford it or they don’t celebrate Christmas.

Thomson added: “The survey, like our Black Friday and Cyber Monday research, also shows that consumers are adapting their shopping habits, by purchasing more online.”
