TUI Group, which own brands Thomson and First Choice has reported that it has seen an increase in summer holiday bookings this year, especially from UK customers who have expressed an interest Spanish and long-haul destinations.

After suffering a 40% decrease to Turkey due to the problems in Syria, the company said in its latest trading statement that demand for Turkish destinations remained "subdued".

The company added: "We remain pleased with our summer 2016 trading performance, with 95% of our source market programme sold and increased revenue in all our major source markets.
"The UK continues to demonstrate a strong bookings performance, up 9% on prior year."

Figures for TUI Group revealed it has sold 47% of its summer holidays and overall its bookings rose 2% as well as revenues being 3% higher.
