Following the launch of a new store in The Centre shopping centre in Livingston, Scotland, the SUBWAY brand has reached the milestone of 5,000 stores operating in Europe.

With the first SUBWAY store opening in the UK and Ireland in 1996, the brand launched 300 stores in 2015 and now has 2,300 stores in the region.

Regional director - Europe, Justin Goes, said: “We’re absolutely thrilled to be announcing the 5,000th SUBWAY store in Europe. It is a fantastic achievement and reflects the strong entrepreneurial spirit of our franchisees who work hard in their local communities providing a great product and excellent customer service to all our customers.”

One of the largest growth areas for SUBWAY is the expansion of stores in non-traditional locations such as on forecourt sites, within universities, convenience stores and hospitals.

The UK and Ireland is SUBWAY's third largest market behind the US and Canada.
