Revealing a world first, department store Selfridges will be launching an in-house theatre to celebrate the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare’s death and as part of its Shakespeare Refashioned event, which will combine fashion and drama in honour of the playwright.

The 100-seat theatre is now selling tickets for a production of Much Ado About Nothing.

The project combines the teamwork of The Faction theatre company, the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA) and Selfridges.

Mark Leipacher, director, said: "This play offers a world in which fashion, appearance and social standing are of paramount importance and rumour, gossip and insinuation can be lethal.

"Everyone at The Faction is delighted to be collaborating with Selfridges to create this new production for the Shakespeare Refashioned project. It's an ambitious, innovative and wild idea - exactly the way we should be celebrating Shakespeare 400."

Selfridge’s display windows will also reflect interpretations of Shakespeare’s plays as part of the celebrations.
