A rise in Scottish food sales has provided a much-needed boost to the per-tax profits and revenue in the Scottish retail sector. When compared to the previous May, grocery sales rose by 4.5%, opposed to the 0.7% decrease prior to this. This growth marked the fastest increase in the sector since 2013 which was necessary due other Scottish sales decreasing by 3.8%. David Lonsdale, Scottish Retail Consortium director noted that, “that growth is partly being driven by rising food price inflation, so grocers will see only modest benefit. Non-food retail sales remained in the doldrums.”
