Samsung is the latest retailer to commit to reducing its plastic packaging.

The company has laid out plans to substitute more sustainable alternatives this year.

It has launched a task force to spearhead its drive towards a more sustainable packaging.

Samsung has said that in the first half of this year, it will replace its plastic packaging with recycled plastics or paper alternatives.

It also plans to make the exterior of its phone charger matte, meaning there will be no need for plastic protection films.

The plastics that are used to protect items such as TV’s and washing machines will be replaced with bio-plastics, which are made from sugar cane and starch as opposed to fossil fuel.

Samsung head of global customer satisfaction center Gyeong-bin Jeon said , “Samsung Electronics is stepping up in addressing society’s environmental issues such as resource depletion and plastic wastes,”

“We will adopt more environmentally sustainable materials even if it means an increase in cost.”
