Department store John Lewis saw its sales increase 6.9% year-on-year last week.

Figures show, that regardless of the warm weather, fashion sales increased 5.9% due to promotional activity and its new autumn/winter collection. Other figures show that own-brand items increased by 16%, cashmere by 46%, cold weather accessories by 23% and men’s brands Hugo Boss and Thomas Pink also contributed with a 14% rise.

Other departments reporting an increase in sales were furnishing textiles and carpet with an 8% rise, home sales up 2.9% and electricals and home technology increasing 12.2%. Sales online also increased 21.3%.Buying director for fashion and beauty at John Lewis, Ed Connolly, said: “With Christmas shop opening in all branches this week and as momentum behind our gifting assortments continues, we have an optimistic outlook for October.”
