It has been reported today that department store John Lewis saw its sales decrease 2.3% year-on-year last week due to one day less of trading. This was despite sales increasing 9.4% compared with the same week the previous year.

Figures show that home technology and electrical sales rose 8.3%, especially in the communication technology category. Total sales over the two week period increased 18.9%.

Other figures show that fashion sales dropped 7.6%, however handbag sales increased 4.3% and women’s shoes rose 6.1%.

Commercial director, Paula Nickolds, said: “With the arrival of Spring and an additional day in shops from last year's Easter Sunday, we are well placed for the week ahead.”
