As part of its plan to save on costs, Sainsbury’s is looking to make 1,400 payroll and HR staff redundant. It will also be carrying out a restructure at Sainsbury’s bank and Argos where an additional 600 jobs could be affected.

A spokesperson at Sainsbury’s said: “The UK grocery market is changing at a rapid pace and it’s crucial that we transform the way we operate to meet future challenges and continue to provide customers with the best in class service.

“Following a comprehensive review, we are proposing some updates to our HR structures and systems as well as other changes to a number of other support roles, subject to consultation.”
