Sainsbury’s is strengthening its wellness and sports nutrition offering by introducing ‘wellness hubs’ in selected stores.

This will help the supermarket compete with the likes of Planet Organic and Holland and Barrett.

The UK’s wellness market is on track to reach £12.4 billion by 2020.

Sainsbury’s have said that the move will mean that the ranges of wellness and sports nutrition products are more easily accessible in store due to them brought together in-store for the first time.  They are set to stock around 500 new products form brands such as Optimum Nutrition, Women’s Best and Tisserand.  The new ranges will also feature more specialist items such as hemp water, bone broths, activated nuts and superfood powders.

The hubs have already launched in Sainsbury’s stores in Selley Oak, Newbury Park, Watchmoor Park, Coldhmas Lane and St Clares this month.  Further openings will come at the stores in Cheadle and Lee Green in January.

Paul Mills-Hicks, Sainsbury’s food commercial director said, “Wellness and sports nutrition are areas that are becoming increasingly popular with our customers. To make sure they can find everything they need quickly and easily, we’ve doubled our range, introducing specialist and premium brands that customers won’t find in any other stores. With such a convenient choice of distinctive products, we’re confident that health-conscious customers won’t need to shop anywhere else.”
