Supermarket group Sainsbury’s has announced that it is to drop its Brand Match scheme and focus instead on everyday deals on basic products. According to reports, the supermarket will drop the scheme, which has been hit by a change in shopping patterns meaning it applies to less than a fifth of transactions, later this month. Instead, the supermarket has vowed to cut prices on basics such as bread, cheese and cleaning products. The move comes as Sainsbury’s rival big four grocers review their pricing in response to competition from the discounters.
