River Island has appointed Will Kernan as chief executive. Mr Kernan will be joining the business on 30 September when he will succeed Ben Lewis, the nephew of River Island founder Bernard Lewis.
Mr Kernan is a former chief executive of both The White Company and Wiggle. He also worked in senior roles at New Look for 13 years, his most recent being chief operating officer.
Speaking about his appointment, Mr Kernan said: River Island is a British fashion stalwart, which continues to thrive in the fast-paced multichannel retail environment. I have long admired the company and look forward to working with the talented and dedicated team to drive future progress.”
Ben Lewis spent nine years working as River Island’s chief executive.
Mr Lewis said: “I have had the enormous pleasure of leading River Island for nearly a decade. During this time, the company has evolved, expanding into new product categories, and building a strong and successful digital presence. With a passionate and experienced management team, and guided by Will’s leadership, I am confident the business will remain in very capable hands.”
Clive Lewis, River Island chairman said Mr Kernan had been appointed following a rigorous selection process. He said: “We are confident Will has the right skills, experience and vision to lead the company in this exciting new chapter.”
