Co-operative chief executive, Richard Pennycook, is to become Howdens Joinery’s non-executive chairman.
Richard Pennycook will assume the role in May 2016 when long standing chairman, Will Samuel, steps down at the close of the company’s AGM.
During the past five years, Richard Pennycook has also held directorships at the Morrisons supermarket chain and Thomas Cook and is currently chief executive of the Co-operative Group, senior independent director and chairman of the audit committee of Persimmon, and non-executive chairman of The Hut Group.
Howdens has also appointed Andrew Cripps as an independent non-executive director with immediate effect. He will be a member of the audit, remuneration and nomination committees and will also take over as chairman of the audit committee from Mr Pennycook following the AGM.
