Starting from February 2018, DIY and home improvement retailer B&Q will no longer stock flowering plants grown with pesticides that are harmful to bees. The company announced the decision on the back of several scientific studies which concluded that plants grown with neonicotinoid pesticides in fields deliver harmful doses to the insects during pollination. It was noted that it is the first retailer to commit to such a large undertaking, with sustainability manager Rachel Bradley stating that, “We are encouraging everyone to do more for wildlife and to that end we will ensure that none of the flowering plants we sell will be grown using any pesticide containing any of the nine neonicotinoids.”
