Peter Boizot, the man who founded Pizza Express, has passed away at the age of 89.
Boizot opened his first restaurant in 1965 on London’s Wardour Street, with his brand now operating 490 branches around the UK and Ireland.
Mr Boizot was born in 1929 in Peterbourough, and went school there before leaving for Cambridge University.
He remained local to his hometown, and even owned Peterborough United in the late ‘90s.
Pizza Express managing director Zoe Bowley said "He launched a culinary revolution with the first Pizza Express in 1965, introducing delicious pizza and casual dining to the UK, inspired by his travels in Italy."
