After failing to find a buyer to rescue it from failure, over 800 jobs have been cut at Budgens.

Owned by Food Retailer Operations Limited, the company was put in administration in February after enduring “difficult” trading conditions. Out of 34 stores, nine closed last weekend and rest will shut down in the next fortnight.

Joint administrator at PwC, Mike Denny, said “Unfortunately, we have been unable to find a buyer and it is not commercially viable to continue trading the stores.

"We are working closely with the Co-op, Usdaw and the relevant government agencies to ensure that all employees receive the maximum levels of practical and financial support through the redundancy process."
