Internet sales grew by 16.4% in August, signalling the best growth of the year for the expanding ecommerce industry. Sales for clothing saw a 17.9% increase whilst homeware items grew by 20.5% year-on-year. Despite this, electrical sales fell, marking the fifth consecutive month they have done so. Speaking on the figures, Bhavesh Unadkat, principal consultant in retail customer engagement design at Capgemini said, “With the first half of the year marred by consumer uncertainty around Brexit and the general election, retailers must be hugely encouraged by the August results."
