Year-on-year online spending has dropped for the first time since September 2013, as consumers are forced to make cutbacks in response to rising store prices and stagnant wage growth. A 0.1% fall was recorded in April, according to payments technology firm Visa. Overall payment figures increased by 0.5% year-on-year, the smallest increase in spending in four years, however strong Easter trading improved in-store sales by 0.3% representing the largest increase in three years.
