Of the ‘big four’ supermarkets, Morrisons performed best in the past twelve weeks, with sales increasing by 0.3%. Both Lidl and Aldi made substantial gains in market share, with the two discount chains now accounting for 11.7% of the grocery market. Overall grocery sales saw growth slow to 1.4% compared to the 2.3% growth last month, whilst inflation continued to rise. The average household monthly shopping cost rose by approximately £21.31, as the prices for goods rose by 2.3% over the last year.
