Supermarket group Morrisons is investing £30 million in its staff facilities across the UK, giving staff more modern and comfortable areas to take their breaks.

The money will be spent on discounted coffee, free Wi-Fi and mobile phone charging points in areas separate to the staff dining rooms.

Following an employee consultation, the company will revamp 100 staff areas this year, with plans to overhaul the facilities in all of its sites within four years.

Chief executive David Potts has long said that the supermarket’s staff are key to its future success.
The news comes as rival Asda is considering cost-cutting measures such as free tea and toast for its employees and closing staff canteens, as well as cutting up to 1,000 jobs including 200 in head office.
