Businesses in Mike Ashley’s growing group of retailers rake in 3.2% of all non-food retail spend.
Mike Ashley founded Sports Direct in 1982, and has since added to his fortune by buying struggling retailers from desperate sellers.
Ashley most recently acquired House of Fraser and is also said to be looking at saving HMV.
Since acquiring House of Fraser in August, Ashley has focused mainly on re-negotiating with landlords over high rent’s.
Many of the House of Fraser stores have been left looking ‘empty and neglected’ since the takeover, and over a third of their consumer base have been put off shopping there, according to a survey conducted in September 2018.
