Scottish family-run department store chain McEwens of Perth has fallen into administration after 150 years of trading.
The company, which started out as a tailoring workshop in 1868, is Scotland’s largest independent department store chain.
The Bullough family, which has run the store since 1982, said that 110 staff face redundancy after negotiations with the bank failed and KPMG have been called in to oversee the administration process.
McEwens has two outlets in Perth, as well as premises in Oban, Argyll and Bute, and Ballater, Aberdeenshire.
John and Georgina Bullough said: “It is with great sadness and regret that we have had to put McEwens of Perth into administration today.
“Despite our exhaustive search for investor and partner solutions, all negotiations with the bank have failed and unfortunately we have run out of options.”
