Specialist wine retailer Majestic wine, have joined the growing list of companies who reported positive sales over the Christmas period. The company recorded their best sales over this period, with growth in sales of 55% on gin and 12% on sparkling wine. The Naked Wines site, which is owned by Majestic Wine, saw an increase of 7.5% in the 10 weeks up to 2nd January. The growth however, was offset by a 1% cut in gross profit margins compared to December, in reaction to the competitive discounted market in the holiday season. An analyst at Verdict Retail, Sarah Johns, suggested that the marketing campaign of the company had been instrumental in the boost in sales, with value-for-money drinks offers as just one of several promotions they ran in this time.Overall growth of the company was calculated to be 12.4%, sparking a 6% increase in shares to 345.5p.
