Major supermarket Marks & Spencer’s are widely expected to announce an increase in clothing sales over the Christmas period. This will be the first time the brand has seen such an increase during the Christmas period in six years. Despite the clothing market being in decline in recent years, Retail Economics analyst Richard Lim predicted that Britons will have spent up to £700m more in this time than compared with the previous year. This marks a 1.7% increase that is estimated to take total sales for the month up to £42.1bn. The company is amongst a number of big retailers who are to reveal their sales figures for the holiday period this week, with other high street supermarkets such as Tesco and Morrison’s aset to reveal how they fared during this time.
