The chief executive of Marks & Spencer, Marc Bolland, is understood to be remaining with the retailer until at least 2017, despite rumours that he would be stepping down amidst mounting pressure from investors. This speculation was fuelled in July by the unexpected resignation of head of general merchandise John Dixon.

Sources have said, however, that the former boss of Morrisons wants to remain with the company until its recovery plan yields more consistent results.
