According to Worldpay, the global payment provider, Chinese shoppers are set to spend up to £11m over the next week to mark the Chinese New Year. The draw of the weaker pound in addition to the holiday creates London as an attractive destination for the tourists, with luxury boutiques and department stores such as Selfridges expected to benefit from the influx. Further emphasising the economic opportunity, the UK government are continuing to ease visa restrictions on Chinese visitors, allowing more to come and spend. Brands such as Burberry are already taking steps to cater for the tourists, even bringing in Mandarin speaking shop-assistants in some stores.
