The head of Lidl UK, Ronny Gottschlich, has quit after 16 years with the budget grocery chain. He has been replaced by Christian Härtnagel with immediate effect.
Mr Härtnagel has spent 13 years at Lidl, during which he served as regional director at Lidl Ireland and headed up the sales and operations division.
Figures have shown that whilst Mr Gottschlich was in charge, Lidl opened 630 stores in six years, overtaking its rival Aldi as the fastest-growing grocer in the UK. Lidl stated Mr Hartnagel would be responsible for “moving the business forward and securing its ongoing market growth".
