Supermarket chain Lidl has announced plans to open a new distribution centre in Doncaster, South Yorkshire, which will make it the 13th UK warehouse.
Following on from the opening of its regional distribution centre in Southampton, which created over 400 new jobs, the new centre will cover an area 628,000 sq ft of logistics space, plus ancillary areas and will create 500 permanent jobs in the region.
Adrienne Howells, Lidl UK head of warehouse expansion, said: “With more British customers choosing Lidl as their family supermarket we are laser-focused on the sustainable growth of our business.”
“We are, therefore, thrilled to be in a position to confirm our 13th distribution centre in Great Britain, bringing investment to Doncaster, new jobs and additional support to our existing and future stores in the north of England.”
A planning application had been made for the supermarket’s new centre and office space, with construction looking to start in 2017.
