John Lewis has released its Christmas advert, with seven weeks to go before the big day.

Titled the Man On The Moon, this year’s advert is set to a cover of the Oasis track “Half The World Away”. It features a six-year-old girl called Lily trying to reach an elderly man who she discovers living alone on the moon when she spies him through the family telescope.

She wants to wish him a merry Christmas and finally succeeds by sending him a present of a telescope tied to a bunch of balloons.

It ends with the strapline "Show someone they're loved this Christmas". It is a simple yet important message from the leading department store chain, who have teamed up with Age UK to create the two-minute advert. It raises awareness of the saddening statistic that one million older people can go up to a month without speaking to a single friend, neighbour, loved one or even stranger and to remind consumers to consider those who will be alone this year.
