John Lewis is to trial a new in-store virtual reality experience called Visualise Your Space to help customers purchasing furniture and homewares. The new service will piloted in the retailer’s Kingston, Cambridge and Horsham shops from late June and early July.

Customers will be able to enter the dimensions, doors and windows of the room they want to update on an iPad via an app, and then drop in John Lewis products to see how they would look in their home. They will also be able to change the colour of the walls and floors.

Customers will be able to view their designed room on either an iPad as a 3D room set in augmented reality, or wear a virtual reality headset to ‘walk around’ the room. Customers will then be emailed a copy of the room they created with shoppable links.
