John Lewis' fashion sales were down 1.8% last week despite a good performance in the autumn/winter clothing category.

Home sales fell by 5.1% although the retailer’s newly opened Christmas Villages performed well. Sales of Halloween products were up 24% on the same time last year.

Home technology and electrical sales rose by 1.4%, driven by strong sales in communication technology. Apple products, including Macbooks and iPads, were particularly popular and there were also strong sales within the accessories category.
