John Lewis saw its sales rise by 2.3% to £129.2 million year-on-year last week with both the shops and johnlewis.com enjoying solid trade.
The shopping days before Christmas were busy with customers making last minute purchases in the shops and picking up Click & Collect orders until the store closed on Christmas Eve. Online sales climbed by 25.1% on last year after a record volume of customers visited the John Lewis app.
Fashion sales increased by 2.7% on last year with the jewellery and watches category achieving some of the best percentage increases at 23.3%.
In electricals and home technology, sales were up 2.8% as trade was boosted by a 21% rise in the tablet and computing category.
Home sales edged up 0.7% driven by a 49.2% uplift in sales of gift food and seasonal items.
Andy Street, managing director of John Lewis, said: “This was a busy week for us. Customers were shopping right until the last moment before Christmas, helped by the extension of our Click & Collect service to Christmas Eve.
“We are now in the final week of our peak trading period with Clearance in full swing across our shops and online and we are seeing customers continue to enjoy our reductions across fashion, home and EHT.”
