John Lewis sales increased by 7% year-on-year last week in what was the final full week's trade before Christmas.
As online sales rose by 30.3%, the retailer has extended its click & collect deadline to 8pm on the 23rd December which will enable customers to pick up orders on Christmas Eve in John Lewis shops from 2pm.
Home technology and electricals had a strong week with sales rising by 16.2%. Product categories achieving the biggest percentage increases included consoles and gaming, connected home and tablets and computers.
Fashion sales grew by 1.9% on last year despite the mild weather impacting sales of cold weather clothing. Womenswear was the strongest performer with a rise of 5.3%.
Meanwhile, home sales climbed by 5.1% year-on-year boosted by a 20.1% rise in furniture sales.
Managing director of John Lewis, Andy Street said: “Customers clearly want to keep shopping right through to Christmas Eve, and with the final few shopping days left we are expecting our shops to be incredibly busy as people are off work. With the extension of our Click & Collect service, John Lewis is making it easier than ever for customers to finish their Christmas shopping.”
