John Lewis has reported healthy trading for last week with a sales growth of 7.1% year-on-year with Ashford being the top performing store which saw its sales climb by 19% on last year.

This was followed by the Chester, York and Ipswich stores which all posted double-digit percentage increases.

Online sales also rose by 22.3% in the week due to the cold weather which led customers to search for items such as fires, thermals, heaters and mittens.

Electricals and home technology continued its recent momentum with a strong uplift of 15% and Fashion delivered a growth of 2% following strong sales of own-brand womenswear.

Sales in the home directorate saw an increase by 3.6% with a good performance in both new season products and clearance items.

Director of online trade at John Lewis, Mark Felix said: “As we trade the final week of our financial year our customers are already looking ahead, with online data showing us that they are already searching for Easter.”
