Department store John Lewis has revealed that sales rose 3.4% year-on-year last week, driven by fashion and electricals and home technology.

Figures show that in the fashion department, sales increased 7.9% particularly in swimwear, nightwear and women’s accessories. Menswear also saw a rise of 8.1% compared with last year.

Other figures show that in electricals and home technology, sales grew 10.5% with strong performances coming from small electrical products and communication technology.

The home department struggled however; sales decreased 7.2% on last year. John Lewis said “customers were less inclined to think about big ticket items for the home due to the warmer weather. However, the sunshine had a positive effect for outdoor living products which saw a 41.5% increase in sales.”
