British bakery company, Greggs have posted sales figures of almost £900m for the year to December 31st, marking an improvement on the performance in the previous year. Overall sales for the year amounted to £894m compared with 2015’s total of £836m. Much of the success was attributed to the brands changing ethos from being a traditional bakery to a “food-on-the-go” retailer, with the breakfast items being the most rapidly growing part of the business. This part accounts for sales exceeding £100m in the last year. During the year, over 140 new stores were opened around the UK with only another 79 being closed.
